How can new developments in CAD and CAM make materials more dynamic?
New technologies can generally be used to mimic those that came before them; Laser cutters and CNC routers do what craftsmen used to do with saws and chisels. But in each new technology is an opportunity for something entirely new.
This is a sheet of paper, cut by a CNC laser cutter with a pattern that allows it to stretch in two dimensions. This new material is painted with epoxy and draped over a form which sets a 3D shape.
